ELAC

ELAC stands for English Learner Advisory Committee. All parents of Emergent Bilinguals (EBs) are encouraged to participate in ELAC. The Colfax ELAC will provide written recommendations to the LSLC regarding programs and services for EB students. Recommendations are based on engagement data, reclassification rates, program placement data, surveys, and parent education.

Meetings are held 6 times a year in addition to  the mandatory orientation and election meetings.

Officers are elected at the beginning of each school year.

Guiding principles

1. Emergent Bilinguals (EBs) are held to the same high expectations of learning established for all students.

2. EBs develop full receptive and productive proficiencies in English in the domains of listening, speaking, reading & writing.

3. EBs are taught challenging academic content that enables them to meet performance standards in all content areas.

4. EBs receive instruction that builds on their previous education and cognitive abilities and that reflects their language proficiency levels.

5. EBs are evaluated with appropriate and valid assessments that are aligned to state and local standards and that take into account the language development stages & cultural backgrounds of the students.
