Visitors
We invite you to visit your child's classroom as a way to stay informed about your child's education. Regular communication with the teacher about his/her progress and social emotional development is essential for your child's success and we encourage it. Checking in with the teacher at drop off can be useful, but may interfere with instructional time if the discussion is lengthy. Please make an appointment, leave a note, email or call the teacher to set up a conference.
When you have scheduled a visit with the teacher, please keep in mind the following:
1) Sign-in & Pick-up a visitor's pass in the Main Office
2) Enter and leave the room as quietly as possible
3) Do not converse with the students, teacher, or classroom aides
4) Do not interfere with classroom activities
5) Keep the length of the classroom visit to 20 minutes (unless prearranged with the teacher)
6) Return the visitor pass and sign-out in the Main Office
Volunteers
Colfax would not be the wonderful place it is without our dedicated volunteers! Some volunteers give hundreds of hours and some give a few. Please sign-in at the Main Office before entering the school to volunteer. And remember to also sign out when you leave.
All parents and community members who would like to volunteer must complete the following before they can volunteer:
1) Complete the LAUSD online volunteer application
2) Submit TB clearance to the office
3) Each applicants name will be checked with the Megan's Law database
4) Volunteers may never be unsupervised with students
Once your application has cleared, you will receive a volunteer badge from LAUSD. When you arrange your volunteer hours with the classroom teacher or committee you may present your badge in the Main Office when signing in.
Volunteers may not interfere with classroom instruction.
